Aside from the meadows, lakes, and forests that dot the landscape, Montana is hosts three of the five entrances to Yellowstone National Park, the first national park in the world. With sprawling grasslands and majestic mountains, Big Sky Country is the ideal location for those looking to get away from the eyesores of high rise buildings and the general chaos of big city life. In fact, the largest city in the state, Billings, had a population of approximately 103,994 in 2008, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, which is scant compared to the whopping 1,279,910 population of Dallas, Texas. Things are decidedly quieter in Montana, though make no mistake, it is still a prospering state with a bright future.

The main industries in the Treasure State are agriculture, tourism, and interestingly, beer production. The state has the third most craft breweries per capita in the nation. However, health care is not left out of the loop in Montana. Nursing in particular is holding steady, though nurses are more likely to find work in the major metropolitan areas of Billings and Missoula than in the surrounding rural areas. In fact, approximately 39% of all of Montana’s registered nurses work in those two hubs, which is not surprising because where there are more people, there are also inevitably more patients to be cared for. To become a registered nurse (RN) in Montana, one must obtain a diploma, associate, or bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing program. Then, prospective nurses must also successfully complete the NCLEX-RN examination to obtain a nursing license. This is done through registering for the test with the Montana Board of Nursing as well as with Pearson Vue, the Board’s choice method of examination delivery. In Montana, RNs must renew their nursing licenses before they expire on December 31st of every even-numbered year.
