When you think of South Dakota, Mount Rushmore may be the first and only thing that comes to mind. After all, the iconic mountainside carving that features the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln is a tourist attraction that draws in visitors from all over the country as well as from around the world. Yet, there is much more to South Dakota than just the presidential monument. In fact, there are a plethora of things to see and do in the Mount Rushmore State. Residents enjoy sweeping views of the sprawling prairies pocked with glacial lakes and fertile farm lands. There are even more unusual things to participate in, like the annual Clark Mashed Potato Wrestling contest and going to see the free-roaming bison in Custer State Park.

South Dakota boasts a low unemployment rate. This may have to do with the fact that the state is a quiet one with few residents sharing a large amount of land. In the Mount Rushmore State, agriculture and health care are two of the biggest industries driving the economy. While many other industries have suffered during the economic downturn, in South Dakota, those two industries remained strong and prosperous. Cattle, soybeans, corn, wheat, and pigs are the biggest agricultural products put out by the state, making it possible for families across the nation to enjoy these goods. As the resident population ages, the demand for health care professionals will grow as well. Those looking to join the nursing field in South Dakota need to be prepared to hunt around for jobs. However, do not lose faith – those jobs are out there. To become a registered nurse (RN) in South Dakota, you first have to earn a diploma, associate, or bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing program. Then, you must also successfully complete the NCLEX-RN examination to obtain a nursing license.
