The only state named after a president, Washington is a hotspot that knows how to entertain visitors and residents alike. Though there are plenty of sites to see throughout the state, from the rolling hills to the thick evergreen forests to the few arid deserts that dot the landscape, a majority of the population in the Evergreen State resides in and around Seattle. Seattle on its own is impressive. The city is known for its coffee culture, and indeed the reputation of Seattleites’ love for a good cup of joe is not entirely undeserved. On nearly every major thoroughfare, there is bound to be a coffee shop serving up caffeine to residents looking for an early morning (or late afternoon) pick-me-up. It also is home to iconic Space Needle, which was constructed for the 1962 World’s Fair and still stands today as a revolving restaurant, offering diners an interesting view of the city skyline as they eat.

Past industrial businesses mingle with new technology-driven businesses in Washington. Green building and green technology are both taking off in the state. Washington also serves as the home of several large companies, including Internet retailer Amazon.com, department store Nordstrom, and not surprisingly, the coffee chain giant Starbucks. Health care is another industry holding its own in the Evergreen State, fueled by the increasing number of residents nearing retirement and elderly age. This inevitably drives up the need for health care professionals, including the expertise of nurses. Those looking to enter the nursing profession will find the best employment opportunities in Seattle. To become a registered nurse (RN) in Washington, you must earn a diploma, associate, or bachelor’s degree from a nursing program approved by the state’s Board of Nursing. This can be verified by contacting the Board before enrollment. Afterwards, prospective nurses must also successfully complete the NCLEX-RN examination to gain a nursing license.
